What thread count is best for bed sheets in Australia?
Considering the Australian climate, a sheet set with a thread count (TC) of 400 to 600 is typically a good starting point for sheets that are soft to the touch but also breathable enough to prevent moisture and heat from building-up.
But because there’s no international standards for measuring thread count, it can vary based on the fabric materials, brand and other factors – as well as your own preferences.
In basic terms, thread count refers to the number of threads measured on an area of the sheet. It’s most often found on cotton sheets but could also be included for bamboo or blended sheets. The higher the thread count, the more structured and firm sheets are likely to be. But, as Choice has reported “brands can get away with using multi-ply threads while claiming that each ply in a thread counts towards the thread count”.
So, higher thread count doesn’t necessarily mean better quality on its own. But alongside the fabric materials, weave, stitching and other details, it can help you find the best sheets for your bed.
