The one recipe you’ll never find on RecipeTin Eats

Fans are going bananas over it.

Nagi Maehashi of RecipeTin Eats is a certified recipe queen. Her website, launched in 2014, has given home cooks across Australia a recipe for every occasion. With the recent release of her new cookbook, ‘Tonight’, fans are even more enraptured. It includes everything from party food to ‘fakeaway’ dishes and delicious mid-week meals. Think of any recipe and she’s probably got it. Or does she?

Fans trawling the site have recently observed Nagi has never ever posted a banana bread recipe. Turns out this isn’t an accident. Nagi admits she just doesn’t like bananas. “[Bananas are] the only “normal” food I can’t stand, a childhood hangover from all those years my mother would jam a banana in my lunchbox and there it would sit, festering in the Aussie summer heat,” she wrote in a blog post in 2021.

Does RecipeTin Eats have banana bread recipes?

It’s a very quick answer; no!

Without any banana bread recipes on her site, fans did comment about the problem:

“NagiNagi Nagi. You’ve let me down…” said one user in 2021.

Another said, “Found this article while trying to search for a banana bread recipe and it gave me a good laugh! Loved the other recipes so far so won’t be too disappointed about the no banana rule.”

In 2024, fans are still commenting, “I came here to request a Banana Bread recipe, then read your hate for bananas LOL. Damn it!”

Many find the situation hilarious, and have shared their own stories of foods they won’t touch because of ‘childhood trauma’. Some are still holding out hope, like this comment, “So we’re all here in 2024 just to beg Nagi for a Banana Bread recipe huh?”
