Have you seen a blue meatball platter popping up in your Instagram feed?
If IKEA is a core part of your algorithm, you might’ve come across the release of Swedish designer Gustaf Westman’s new VINTERFINT collection. The meatball tray in the collection has already gone viral (although serving DRY meatballs is sacrilegious to me). Meatballs aside, there was actually another piece of tableware that caught my eye…
It was, in fact, the green and pink plates laid out on the party table that had my tail wagging (so to speak). While very functional in their composition, don’t they kind of, maybe, just a teensy little bit, resemble a dog bowl?

The VINTERFINT plate is made of porcelain, coming in both pink and green colourways, and will be priced at $49. It’s oversized, fluid in form and very reminiscent of the ‘bubble plate’ trend from late last year.
I thought it was just me alone that thought this new design looks a little like my pup’s dinner bowl; however, I was quickly proven wrong after a quick search on social media.
Most comments were in the realms of ‘I NEED THIS NOW’, but some pointed out the plates, saying:
“Is it a design for pets?”
“The plates look like dog bowls but love the lamp”
“Am I the only one who compared it to a dog bowl for people?”
The whole collection from Gustaf is light-hearted, oversized and full of fun, so it’s possible that the ‘dog-bowl’ shape could be more of a lure than a deterrent. If anything, these plates add that extra bit of whimsy to your holiday tablescapes.
A platter, just for meatballs?
Of course, a trip to IKEA wouldn’t be complete without getting a serving of their iconic Swedish meatballs. Gustaf has taken the meatball cult following in stride, creating a party platter that’s specifically for those delicious morsels of meat.

Its long, linear design means the meatball can take centre stage, and be the showstopper starter at your dinner table. It even comes with instructions on how to prepare and serve your meatball party plate! In a bright blue colourway, this new bit of kit is sure to become the next favourite among IKEA stans.
Overall, Gustaf’s designs are joyful and fun, and come just in time for seasonal celebrations around the corner. Swedish meatballs for Christmas lunch? Me think so!
What we love from the Gustaf Westman VINTERFINT collection
I might be giving these plates a miss, but there are a few standouts in the collection that are sure to sell out in a flash. Here’s what I’ll be trying to get my hands on when the collection hits Australian stores:
VINTERFINT vase in pink
from $59
The new VINTERFINT vase is spirally, perfectly pink and has garnered the most attention online (after the meatball platter of course). If you love a beige home but still want a tiny bit of interest, this vase is your perfect choice. The single metal spiral and glass vessel are joined together in an easy balance, and definitely speak to Gustaf’s playful design side.
Be wary, though, this funky design looks fab, but little kids might mistake it for a bouncy slinky!
VINTERFINT candle holder in dark green
from $25
While this candle holder has basically the same shape as the VINTERFINT plates (very dog-bowl-like), there’s something much more appealing about them. Perhaps it’s their smaller size, or the fact that you’re not meant to eat out of it?
Plop a large candle in here, or even use it as a jewellery dish for your bedside table.
VINTERFINT cup/saucer
from $15
These days, everyone loves a chunky cup, and this cup and saucer set is no exception. It’s designed to hold traditional Swedish ‘glogg’ (mulled wine), with the saucer having ample room for a ton of bikkies.
If you love an afternoon cuppa with extensive amounts of biscuits for dipping, the oversized nature of this duo will suit you perfectly.
VINTERFINT table lamp in pink
from $29
Now this is a funky design everyone can get around. A battery-operated, rechargeable lamp that can change shape, and for such a low cost? It’s an investment! And, in my opinion, way cooler than the VARMBLIXT wall lamp.
