Kmart has done it again with the launch of its vibrant new August Living collection — but not everyone’s on board with the bold colour palette.
Inspired by international design movements, the range brings sculptural forms, rich textures and saturated hues into everyday homes. Think curved furniture, oversized accents, colour-blocked cushions, wavy-edged mirrors and textured ceramics — everything you need to refresh your bedroom, kitchen, living room and beyond.
The colour sparking big debates online? Green
In the Kmart Hacks & Decor Facebook group, a recent post lit up with a familiar question: “What’s with all the GREEN at Kmart?”
With over 200 comments, the responses were swift and mixed.
“I know. It’s my least favourite colour,” said one commenter.
“Obviously it’s the in colour this year,” chimed another.
But not everyone was disappointed.
“I’m loving it. We’ve had enough pink and grey,” someone else expressed.
Another added: “Ikr! Where’s the pink or black?”
“Soooooo good! Finally, something for those of us who hate pink in homewares!”
Green is the new beige
Despite, the colour reviews online, Kmart’s colour choice is actually spot on with green having a huge moment in the sun. Renee Enoka is the hn-House Interior Designer and Product Marketing Executive at ABI Interiors. She says green is the perfect post-beige colour shift.
“People are craving more personality and richness in their spaces,” she says. “Green serves as a gentle step into colour without being too overwhelming.”
If you’re unsure where to start, Renee suggests introducing green through soft furnishings like cushions, throws or curtains in muted or rich tones. “Artwork is another easy option — especially botanical or abstract styles — and even ceramics, vases or indoor plants can create an instant impact.”
How to choose the right green for your space
Renee says the key is to consider the mood you want to create.
“Deep forest greens feel moody and luxurious, while soft sage or olive brings a sense of calm and sophistication,” says Renee. “Warmer greens with yellow undertones can feel fresh and uplifting in bright, modern spaces, whereas cooler tones like eucalyptus work beautifully in traditional or minimalist settings.”
