The top 100 baby names in Australia for 2025

And some cute personalised gift ideas.

The days when Bruce and Sheila were common Australian names are long gone. These days, you are way more likely to meet an Ivy or a Levi in Australia.

According to the Baby Names Australia Report 2025 from McCrindle Research, the most popular baby names in Australia are Oliver for a boy (again) and Charlotte for a girl. In fact, Oliver has been the top boy’s name in Australia for 12 years. The top baby name for girls has swung between Isla and Charlotte for the last few years- for 2025, it’s back to Charlotte again!

This year’s analysis from McCrindle Research has an interesting twist. We’re now able to fully understand the name conventions of Generation Alpha, since all of the Gen Alpha children have been born (2010-2024). And research shows that Oliver and Charlotte are the top names across the generation.

There are 30,818 Olivers and 24,256 Charlottes from this specific generation. Other noteworthy names include Theodore and Hazel, which have both experienced incredible growth in the last 15 years.

Top 100 Australian names for baby girls in 2025

In true Aussie fashion, it’s the nicknames that have held up the best for girls, with Lottie (Charlotte), Frankie (Frances) and Evie (Evelyn) all making the top 100.

There’s also been a turn back to the classics this year, with Claire (99) and Jasmine (89) joining the top 100 once again. Of course, Rose, Elizabeth, Harriet and Adeline are still in the top 100 again this year!

Top 100 Australian names for baby boys

The top ten baby boy names have remained relatively similar for the past few years. In fact, Oliver (1) and Noah (2) remain unchanged in position for the third year in a row.

The name Archie has also been on the rise since Meghan and Harry announced the name of their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in 2019. It’s now the 15th most popular name!

The report noted a trend towards more gender neutral names, including Jordan, Riley and Darcy. There are also names with slight variations for boys and girls, such as Billy for a boy and Billie for a girl.

The 2024 baby name analysis

The 2024 report notes that celebrities and pop culture obviously have an influence on the names of “Generation Alpha” babies, with examples including Ariana (Grande), Margot (Robbie) and Louis (Prince William and Cate’s son).

“The [British] Royal Family, along with historical television shows like The Crown and Bridgerton, continue to climb in popularity, inspiring regal names,” the report says.

“In fact, many names from Bridgerton have seen a steady climb since the first season of the show.” This includes Penelope, Theo, George and Eloise.
