The days when Bruce and Sheila were common Australian names are long gone. These days, you are way more likely to meet an Ivy or a Levi in Australia.
According to the Baby Names Australia Report 2025 from McCrindle Research, the most popular baby names in Australia are Oliver for a boy (again) and Charlotte for a girl. In fact, Oliver has been the top boy’s name in Australia for 12 years. The top baby name for girls has swung between Isla and Charlotte for the last few years- for 2025, it’s back to Charlotte again!
This year’s analysis from McCrindle Research has an interesting twist. We’re now able to fully understand the name conventions of Generation Alpha, since all of the Gen Alpha children have been born (2010-2024). And research shows that Oliver and Charlotte are the top names across the generation.
There are 30,818 Olivers and 24,256 Charlottes from this specific generation. Other noteworthy names include Theodore and Hazel, which have both experienced incredible growth in the last 15 years.
