This is what our host Johanna Griggs is up to this week:
Three years ago, Joh caught up with BMX Olympic medal hopefuls, Kai and Saya Sakakibara. Like the BMX track they ride, their story has been quite the rollercoaster. After Kai had a near fatal fall that left him unable to compete in the sport he loved, younger sister Saya then also had a fall during the Tokyo Olympics, shattering her Olympic dream. With Saya’s gold medal at the Paris Olympics, she’s had an ending worthy of a Hollywood movie, but as Joh finds out, Kai maybe a very proud brother, but he still has ambitions for a gold medal of his own.
Missed out last week? Here’s what Joh got up to:
Stephanie Alexander is one of the great doyennes of Australian cooking, having inspired generations of home cooks thanks to books like ‘The Cook’s Companion’, which has sold over half a million copies. On this the 35th anniversary of her kitchen “bible” Joh joins the culinary legend to talk about her legacy, which isn’t just confined to her 19 cookbooks. She is equally proud of her popular Kitchen Garden program that’s run in about 10% of schools across the country, teaching kids the value of food, from growing to eating. But with Joh around, there will be some cooking, so Stephanie shows Joh how to create a delicious spring salad of cauliflower, black barley and preserved lemon.
